A bread knife’s main function is to slice bread. An excellent bread knife should be able to cut through a hard crust without crushing or mangling the delicate crumb inside.

A bread knife’s serrated edge offers some clear advantages when it comes to slicing certain foods, particularly bread because it’s made to cut right through crusty loaves without crushing the delicate interior.Bread Knife

According to Geocuse, the serrated bread knife was created in 1919 by Syracuse resident Joseph E. Burns. His grooved blade made it simpler to slice bread without squashing it, which made baker’s and kitchen experts' lives better all across the world. Burns later went on to patent an edged blade sharpening tool in 1940. Bread knives come in both right- and left-handed varieties. Serrations on the left side of a right-handed bread knife's blade assist you to maintain your hand straight when cutting by preventing it from slipping. Serrations are present on the right side of a left-handed knife for the same reason.
