We are a small family business that specializes in building things out of natural wood. Over time this has allowed us to fine tune the construction process and offer some of the best cutting boards available. Clamping procedures and other steps involved make for the tightest, strongest glue joints you can achieve when making these hardwood products. Glue joints are one of the most common but very important things overlooked when shopping for a quality board. Barco Builders uses top notch materials – Titebond III glue and the highest-grade hardwoods all integrated into every cutting board. All hardwood is hand selected by the owner, Chris, to ensure only the highest quality boards are used. Each hardwood board is milled using a jointer and thickness planer, cut on a table saw, glued, run through the thickness planer one last time, cut into the desired thickness, glued again, and then sanded using a combination of a belt sander and an orbital sander. Each board is sprayed with water to allow the grain of the wood to rise, then sanded to a smooth perfection. After the final sanding, my signature is burned into the bottom of the board and a proprietary mixture of mineral oil and beeswax finish is applied to the board and allowed to dry overnight. Silicone feet are applied to the bottom of each board with stainless steel screws to ensure the bottom of the boards can dry in the wet kitchen environment. Rustic side carrying handles are attached to the sides.
